Hens & Chicks, Houseleek - Sempervivums are succulent natives of the mountains of central and southern Europe, Asia, northern Africa and the western Himalayas.  Known as an ornamental plant since before the days of Pliny, they have been used for a number of purposes.  Great survivors, they will cross endlessly among themselves to produce very different varieties.  Hardy Houseleeks are extremely adaptable and are among the easiest of plants to grow.  They do best in full sun and prefer a light sandy loam that is well drained.  Perfect for rock gardens and walls, tiled roofs (legend has it that a houseleek on the roof keeps away lightning and fire),  and containers.  The types we offer are hardy to -40F (-40C).
