Erythrinas are lovely flowering trees and shrubs native to the tropics and warm temperature regions. Erythrinas belong to the Pea family, Leguminosae and are used as valuable nitrogen fixing plants. They are often grown in the far US south and can withstand temperatures down to 40F.
All varieties thrive in well drained soil in full sun and may be propagated by seed or cuttings taken from young wood. Seeds should be planted in pots or trays at a depth of 1/2inch. Keep moist at 75F. Transplant seedlings when they reach 2" tall. They can then be moved to larger containers or, if the outdoor temperature is 75F, they may be moved outdoors.
