PLANT INFORMATION,
CULTIVATION AND SEED SPECS
The name Agastache is derived from the Greek for 'many
spikes' and these plants do deliver an abundance of beautifully
colored scented blooms. Agastache is a genus of
herbaceous perennial plants belonging to the Mint family, Labiata
(or Lamiaceae). Plants are upright with flower
spikes in shades from white to pink to purple, some with
contrasting bracts. The blooms are very attractive to bees,
butterflies and hummingbirds. The foliage is aromatic
and reminiscent of anise, with the leaves and seeds of
some species being used to flavor foods. The plants make
excellent container or bedding plants and
prefer a location in full sun.
Propagation is by seed. FOR TRANSPLANTS:
Sow seed in pots or trays. Barely cover as light aids in
germination. Keep moist at 65-75F. Transplant
seedlings when they reach 2 inches in height. Tranplant
outdoors when all danger of frost has past. Space seedlings
12-18inches apart in rows 18-24 inches apart. DIRECT
SOW: Sow seed in finely prepared soil in rows
18-24 inches apart. Barely cover. Plant 3-6 seed every 12
inches. Thin seedlings to once plant every 12-18
inches. Cultivate to keep weeds down.
SEED SPECS: Approximately 90,000
seeds per ounce
